The Covid-19 pandemic generated one of the highest economic crises during the year 2020 in Cusco. This was due to the mandatory quarantine, the closing of borders, the closure of tourist centers, among other local activities that allowed its development.
Urubamba, one of the 13 provinces of the region, was not immune to this crisis. At the foundation we witnessed how the parents of our school, whose jobs were related to the tourism industry, lost their jobs or had to close their businesses. But little by little the economy was reactivated and they decided to start small businesses that would allow them to contribute to the family income.
As a foundation, we saw the need to support the parents of our students, and the community in general, by strengthening their skills. Therefore, we decided to incorporate entrepreneurship into our areas of work and work with specialized organizations. Thus, in 2021 we made an alliance with the Universidad del Pacífico, and through the Social Projection course of different careers, the students were able to provide free virtual counseling on marketing to 20 entrepreneurs in Urubamba.
Therefore, this year 2022 we have renewed our alliance so that more local entrepreneurs and parents of the foundation can access this program and obtain better results in their businesses. We thank the Universidad del Pacífico for providing this access to the entrepreneurs of Urubamba and for being an ally of the foundation in its goal of promoting entrepreneurship in the local community.
